Pride

By: Christina Romano

The University of Arizona athletic programs play a huge role in the University community. Once the athletes sign to be apart of this program, the weight of the town and the university is on their shoulders. This forces them to take pride in their school, their sport, and the support of the fans. This picture shows the pride that the University and the town of Tucson has for the Wildcats. Once you step into Tucson city limits, you bleed blue and red. It's Wildcat Country.

Dedication

It's two hours before gametime and the ZonaZoo student section is already packed. This picture shows the dedication of the team being re-enforced by the dedication of the fans, having their game faces ready way before kick-off. It captures the atmosphere at Arizona Stadium on gameday. The U of A football team won its' first bowl game in 10 years in 2009, The Las Vegas Bowl. With the fan dedication and the hard work of the players, there is no question that this year won't be a repeat.

Practice

Practice makes perfect. Without practice, the accomplishments of the U of A sports programs would not exist. Even on the hottest of days, the Arizona Baseball team is practicing year-round in hopes of capturing their fourth national championship. This picture shows the beating sun on Jerry Kindall Field at Frank Sancet Stadium and gives a great view from the left field line.

Focus

The University of Arizona Swimming and Diving programs are one of the best in the country. In 2008, both men's and women's swimming and diving brought home the national title, which makes them the first program to capture the title in both men's and women's swimming/diving in the same year. This picture captures the view a swimmer has from the starting block, right before they dive in to compete. The athlete's focus blurs everything around them except for the lane, knowing that they need to get the job done to bring home the title.

Tradition

U of A has many powerhouse programs that dominate year to year, bringing home multiple championships. One of the most dominant programs is the Women's Softball team. This picture depicts the fence at Hillenbrand Memorial Stadium, home of the Wildcats, and shows the eight national championships that this program has achieved. Being apart of Arizona Softball means being apart of a tradition. The program has 21 consecutive Women's College World Series appearances as well as their eight national titles. The community thrives off of these accomplishments, making a new Wildcat fan be born everyday.

Success

Victory always tastes sweet, especially at Mckale Memorial Center, home of the U of A basketball and volleyball teams. The Men's Basketball team is nationally recognized because of the success of Lute Olsen and the tradition that has been built here. The Men's team has had 24 consecutive NCAA tournement appearances as well as 1 national championship. This picture shows the excitement of the packed McKale Center when the U of A basketball team wins a big game. The success of the team does not only reflect on the players, but the entire community that supports the Wildcats every year, which creates the one-of-a-kind atmosphere that exists at Mckale.
